Thea Long is an artist born and raised in western China, working across moving image, installation, painting, textiles, performance, and sculpture. Growing up amid China’s rapid economic transformation, she became attentive to shifting values and ways of thinking across generations. Her practice is shaped by the tensions and collisions between dominant social ideas, conservative cultural frameworks, and religious traditions—forces that recur as subtle undercurrents in her work.

Thea holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of Auckland, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Whitecliffe College of Art and Design. Drawing from her inner world, she works with memory, feeling, and cultural experience as material—using hybrid forms and layered narratives to build tension and resonance between personal memory and cultural structures.
